Who was The Four Crowned Martyrs?

Ancient accounts tell of skilled sculptors in the quarries of Pannonia who refused to carve a statue of a pagan god for Emperor Diocletian, around 305, and were put to death. Their story was later mixed with that of four Roman soldiers, which is why the group is called "the Four Crowned". The Basilica of Santi Quattro Coronati in Rome is dedicated to them.

Feast day and traditions

Medieval stonemasons' guilds in England and across Europe chose them as patrons; Saint Bede mentions a church in their honor at Canterbury.

Holy Crowned Martyrs, you used your gifts only for God. Pray that our work may always honor Him. Amen.
