The Doctor of the Poor, Close to Your Heart: San José Gregorio Hernández Medal in 18K Gold
Honor Venezuela's beloved "Doctor of the Poor" with this Saint José Gregorio Hernández medal pendant. Handmade in the USA from hypoallergenic 18K solid yellow gold, the 11mm Catholic medal shows the saint with his stethoscope, a tribute to his life as a physician.
Born in Isnotú, Venezuela, in 1864, José Gregorio Hernández studied medicine in Caracas and Paris and became a pioneering doctor and professor. A man of deep faith, he cared for the poor without charge, often paying for their medicine himself. He died in 1919 while on his way to help a sick patient. Pope Leo XIV canonized him on October 19, 2025, a historic day for Venezuela. His feast day is October 26.
For Venezuelans at home and around the world, José Gregorio is a symbol of hope, healing and faith. This medal is a piece of Venezuela to carry close, a heartfelt gift for family and friends far from home.
The back of the medal has a soft satin finish that can be engraved with a name, initials or a special date, making it a personalized keepsake to treasure for years.
Its petite 11mm (0.43 inch) size is comfortable for babies, children and adults, making it a meaningful baptism gift, First Communion keepsake or birthday present. Pair it with one of our 18K gold chains and keep San José Gregorio close every day.
