Who was Saint Mary di Rosa?

Paola di Rosa (1813–1855) was born into a wealthy family in Brescia, Italy. During the cholera epidemic of 1836 she nursed the sick day and night. She founded the Handmaids of Charity, who cared for wounded soldiers on the battlefields of 1848. She took the name Mary of the Crucified and was canonized in 1954.
