Our Lady of Medjugorje, Queen of Peace

On June 24 and 25, 1981, six young people in the village of Medjugorje, in today's Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that the Virgin Mary appeared to them on a hillside, introducing herself as the Queen of Peace. Her messages, as they reported them, call for prayer, fasting, confession, the Eucharist and conversion of heart. June 25 is kept as the anniversary.

The Church has studied Medjugorje for decades. In September 2024 the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, with the approval of Pope Francis, granted a nihil obstat to the spiritual experience there, recognizing its many good fruits and allowing public devotion, while not declaring the apparitions themselves to be supernatural.

Medjugorje receives pilgrims from all over the world, who climb Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain praying the Rosary, and many speak of returning to confession after years away. Youth festivals each summer draw tens of thousands of young people.

Prayer groups in the United States and Latin America gather on the 25th of each month to pray for peace.
