Who was The Prophet Haggai?

Haggai is one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. In 520 B.C., after the return from exile in Babylon, he urged the governor Zerubbabel, the high priest Joshua and all the people to stop putting off the rebuilding of the Lord's house. His short book promises that the glory of the new Temple will be greater than the old, and that God will be with his people. The Roman Martyrology remembers him as a holy prophet on December 16.

Feast day and traditions

His prophecy is read in the Liturgy of the Hours and at Mass, and the Eastern Churches also honor him in mid-December. His words "I will fill this house with glory" have long been applied to Christ coming into the Temple.

Prayer

Holy prophet Haggai, help us put God first and rebuild with courage whatever has fallen in our lives. Amen.
