Who was Saint Paul of Constantinople?

Paul was chosen bishop of Constantinople around 337, at a time when the Arian heresy, which denied that Christ is truly God, had powerful supporters at the imperial court. Faithful to the Creed of Nicaea and a friend of Saint Athanasius, he was driven from his see several times by Emperor Constantius II and found support from Pope Julius I in Rome. Finally exiled to Cucusus in Armenia, he was strangled there by his enemies around 350.
