Who was Saint Osmund?

Osmund was a Norman nobleman who came to England after the Conquest and served King William I as chancellor. In 1078 he was named bishop of Salisbury, where he completed the first cathedral at Old Sarum, consecrated in 1092, and gathered a learned community of clergy. He organized the cathedral's worship, and the "Use of Sarum" that grew from his work became the most widespread form of the liturgy in medieval England. He died in December 1099 and was canonized in 1457.
