Saint Leonard of Port Maurice

Leonard (1676–1751) was born in Porto Maurizio, Italy, and became a Franciscan friar. For over 40 years he preached missions across Italy and erected the Stations of the Cross in more than 500 places, including the Colosseum in Rome. He also promoted the definition of the Immaculate Conception. He was canonized in 1867.

The Franciscans keep his feast on November 26, while some calendars list November 27. The Stations he placed in the Colosseum began the tradition of the Pope's Way of the Cross there on Good Friday.
