Who was Saint Zeno of Nicomedia?

Zeno was a soldier in the imperial city of Nicomedia (in present-day Turkey) during the great persecution of Emperor Diocletian. According to tradition, when the emperor was offering a sacrifice to the goddess Ceres, Zeno publicly mocked the worship of idols and declared himself a Christian. He was arrested, tortured and put to death around the year 303. The Roman Martyrology remembers him on December 22.
