Who was Saint Cassian of Tangier?

Cassian worked as a court recorder in Tingis, today Tangier in Morocco, at the end of the 3rd century. According to his ancient Passion, he was taking notes at the trial of the centurion Saint Marcellus, who had refused to take part in pagan rites. When the judge sentenced Marcellus to death, Cassian threw down his pen and tablets and declared the sentence unjust. He was arrested and beheaded a few weeks later, on December 3, 298.
