Yom HaShoah יוֹם הַשּׁוֹאָה

Yom HaShoah was set on the 27th of Nisan, close to the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, to remember the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators, and the heroism of those who resisted.

In Israel a siren sounds for two minutes and the whole country stops in silence. Communities hold ceremonies where six candles are lit, survivors share their stories and the names of victims are read aloud.
